Playoffs Abound at the Harry Hammond Invitational
Powell and Peters Win
West Chester, PA – The Philadelphia Junior Tour stopped at Penn Oaks Golf Club on Tuesday, August 9th for the 2022 Harry Hammond Invitational. The Harry Hammond Invitational is one of the most prestigious tournaments on the Philadelphia Junior Tour schedule. The tournament is held in honor of Master Professional, Harry Hammond, who is the Director of Golf at Penn Oaks Golf Club, is a past Philadelphia Section Junior Golf Chairman, and is a well-known Junior Golf Leader on the local and national levels. Invites are sent out to all boys and girls between the ages of 16 and 18 by the tournament date, who have finished 1st or 2nd within their respective age division within the last two years on the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour. This year, 40 golfers took to the challenging course, where the greens were rolling at a lightening speed.
In the Boys 16-18 Division, Timothy Peters (State College, PA) faced off against Ethan Cho(Ambler, PA) in a playoff for the overall champion. It was neck and neck every hole, until Peters eventually came out victorious. Both had a score of 74(+3) for the day including two birdies. Tying for third place was Joseph Fargnoli (Mickleton, NJ) and Michael Dignazio (Wilmington, DE) with a score of 77(+6).
In the Girls 16-18 Division, Hayley Ekert (Fairview Village, PA) and Gwendolyn Powell(Madison Township, PA) went head to head in a playoff for the overall girl’s champion. After many holes of great shots, Powell came out on top. The tying score was 80(+9). In third place was Sophia DeSantis (Downingtown, PA) with a score of 81(+10).
All members of the tour that participated in the Harry Hammond Invitational have the opportunity to submit an essay to be eligible for a scholarship to the college of their choice. Further information and details regarding the scholarship will be sent out to the field.
