The PJT Code of Conduct has been put in place to ensure that the traditions and integrity of the game are upheld at all times. The PJT requires all members along with parents, guardians and spectators to adhere to the following set of guidelines to make the tournament the best possible experience for all involved. CODE OF CONDUCT
Section 1: General
The Philadelphia Section PGA and Junior Committee expects the conduct of its players and spectators to adhere to the Code of Conduct and the traditional etiquette expected from ladies and gentlemen.
Each PJT Member, parent and spectator acknowledges the right and authority of the Philadelphia Section PGA to (i) Penalize and suspend from tournament play; and/or to (ii) penalize and permanently bar the Participant from PJT Tournaments. Any Participant in an event hereby releases the Philadelphia Section PGA, the PGA of America, the PGA Tournament Corporation, Inc., rules officials, each director, officer, member, employee, agent or representative of any of the foregoing jointly and severally, individually and in their official capacity, of and from any and all claims, demands, damages and causes of action whatsoever, in law or equity, arising out of or in connection with any such decision or action by the Philadelphia Section PGA, PGA of America or any appellate body.
Any Participant that is found guilty of more than three offenses for violating code of conduct may, at the sole discretion of the Philadelphia Section PGA, be permanently prohibited from participating in all Philadelphia Section PGA and PJT tournaments.
If any Participant engages in any of the following (but not limited to the following) activities or behavior at the site of a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior tournament before, during, or after the actual competition, he or she shall be considered in violation of the Philadelphia Section PGA Code of Conduct, and this shall constitute grounds for disciplinary action:
Section 2: Classes of Violations & Penalties
1. Minor Violations
– A Minor Penalty may be imposed by PJT tournament officials responsible for the conduct of the tournament.
They may include but are not limited to the following:
a. Throwing clubs
b. Disrespect for tournament officials, host professionals, sponsors, care for host facility, etc.
c. Vandalism
d. Loud, cruel language
e. Failure to withdraw from an event in a timely manner
f. Withdrawing from an event for a non-emergency situation or no-showing for an event
2. Minor Penalties
a. First offense: Warning to player and written notice to parent or guardian
b. Second offense: 2 Stroke Penalty and written notice to parent or guardian
c. Third offense: Disqualification, written notice to parent or guardian and suspension of playing privileges for 1 month
d. Minor Penalties are Cumulative for a twelve (12) month period starting with the date of the first offense.
e. In the case of a habitual offender the Committee may escalate what is considered a Minor Penalty into a Major Penalty.
3. Major Violations
– A Major Penalty may be imposed by a PJT Tournament Official and/or the Junior Committee.
They may include but are not limited to the following:
a. Serious infraction of any Minor Penalty/infraction (multiple complaints)
b. Dishonest play, cheating
c. Player taking undue advantage of the rules of golf or a fellow competitor
4. Major Penalties:
a. First offense: Disqualification, written notice to parent or guardian and suspension of playing
privileges for 1 month
b. Second offense: Disqualification, written notice to parent or guardian and suspension of playing
privileges for 3 months
c. Third offense: Removed from membership, written notice to parent or guardian
d. Major penalties will be cumulative over the offenders time as a PGA Member and/or Apprentice
Note: Violations of The Rules of Golf do not apply unless they fit into Minor or Major penalty criteria. If suspended, the player is not entitled to a refund of any membership fees.
Section 3: Junior Committee Authority
If any individual is thought to be in violation of the rules, ethics, or Code of Conduct of the PJT, the Committee shall have the power, by simple majority, to impose upon such violator, a penalty/suspension as outlined in section 1 above.
Section 4: Appeal
1. Penalties as defined in Section 1.1 and 1.3. Appeals from Penalties shall be to the Junior Committee Chairperson (or his/her designee). Such appeal may be in writing or oral. Such appeal shall be received by the Committee Chair no later than thirty (30) days subsequent to the infraction. The Committee Chair shall render the decision on appeal in writing within thirty (30) days of the receipt of the appeal and submit a final report to the Section Executive Director. Such a decision shall be final.
Expectations of Player
All players are expected to maintain and improve the condition of the golf course by replacing divots, repairing ball marks, raking bunkers, picking up and disposing of trash, etc. Members of the Philadelphia Junior Tour shall conduct themselves as ladies and gentleman at all tournaments. Proper etiquette must be followed at all times.
At a host facility, violations of the Code of Conduct include: abusive language or behavior, throwing clubs, cheating, disrespect to officials or volunteers, abuse of the golf course, use of
drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products, not adhering to the dress code, gambling, and failure to notify an official of your decision not to complete the round.
Violations of the Code of Conduct away from the course include abusive language or disrespect to any PGA Section employee and vandalism to any hotel associated with a course.
Penalties for any of these violations will be based on the severity of the violation.
Dress code
The dress code for players and spectators has been established to meet the requirement that a number of our host facilities have in place. Our dress code is as follows:
- No Jeans or Sweatpants
- Hats must be worn facing forward
- Shirts must be tucked in at all times
- Hats should be removed when entering the clubhouse or pro shop
If a player is seen not following the dress code they will be asked by staff to adjust their attire to meet the dress code. Proper attire is required at all times at the host golf course. Questionable attire will be reviewed by the Tournament Committee. Should a host golf course have a stricter dress code, its policy will take precedence.
Prohibited Attire on the Golf Course:
- Tank tops
- T-shirts
- Denim shorts
- Short-shorts
- Cut-off shorts
- Gym shorts
- Jeans
- Tennis shorts
